What is a Loc Repair?

To repair a loc is different than maintenance like retwist palm rolling and interlocking roots. Repairs usualy consists of the following:

  • Fixing split ends
  • Closing tree locs
  • Rejoining a broken in half loc
  • Reattaching broken off locs
  • Repairing “Y” locs
  • Replacing missing locs with new locs
  • Thickening a thinning loc area
  • Re-adding a new growth section to an existing area loc
  • Repositioning locs once combined

Fixing split ends

Sometimes a loc can unravel at the ends or bottom. This can happen to locs that were started traditionally. Even though this is normal for some textures, it can still be annoying. A tool is used to close and reseal the ends.

Closing/Trimming Tree Locs

During retwists, a loctician may have joined two locs together if one loc was weak or hanging. But due to lack of skill or tool, the two locs were left hanging loose. over time, the loc grew as one with the two pieces hanging separately. These can also be closed by tool to form one loc all the way down or if too fat can be separated and filled in.

Rejoining and Reattaching Locs

Save all broken off locs to be added back in. Locs can always be reattached at any stage. Locs that are lost and not saved can simply be made again and infused torepair the area.

Repairing “Y” Locs

Y Locs occur when a loctician incorrectly interlocked the loc root in the same direction. They also happen when straight hair roots are interlocked but the client fails to get maintenance over a long period, resulting in the twirling of the new growth into a Y shaped loc. This can be fixed by repair of the new growth area.

Repositioning Locs

Locs can be purposely removed to be placed in another or in the proper place.

Maintenance

Your Locs should be retwisted once a month to every 6 weeks in most cases. If this is not the case, your locs  suffer in the meantime, resulting in costly repairs. Along with a standard retwist, you can the thinning locs rethickened, pulled out locs reattached and broken locs extended.
